New to the health care marketplace is the unprecedented phenomena of the baby boomers causing a giant surge in the number of persons retiring who are expected to live longer lives .

This is a title wave in the numbers of persons experiencing impaired hearing and hearing loss. AARP predicts that one in three of those persons in the growing senior population will have hearing loss.  This means the number will reach 63 million retirees with hearing impairment by the year 2030.

Attitudes about hearing loss are changing and introducing new demands upon the hearing aid industry. Retirees of today are looking forward to longer lives and the shift in their attitude is placing new emphasis and importance upon their ability to hear, communicate, converse, and socialize.

The use of hearing aids has a new level of perceived value and appeal. New advances in digital hearing aid technologies are making hearing aids more effective, comfortable, appealing and attractive. These dynamics have created a new marketplace and new career opportunities for persons interested in becoming hearing aid specialists.
